Hive game

Welcome to Hive!

As seen recently on BBC TMI, in Creative Steps & Animal Action, among others, Hive is a brilliant game of strategy for two played with highly tactile pieces. The aim of the game is to be the first player to surround your opponent's Queen Bee using a team of assorted creatures of both your own and your opponent's colour.

Because each creature has its own way of moving about the Hive, the game is sometimes called 'nature's chess', yet simpler rules, no need for a board and an added dimension make it a far more flexible and accessible game that can be played anywhere. Simply great fun!

What's included?

A Hive set contains 22 chunky tiles (measuring 43 mm from tip to tip), an illustrated rules leaflet, a quick reference card and a travel bag.

The Mosquito

It somehow became famous when it was just an idea in the back of the inventor's mind and now it seems many Hive addicts cannot wait to get their hands on one - the Mosquito mini-expansion set will be available in the UK from Spring 2008. Keep an eye on this site for details or email us to be kept up to date.

History

Designed by British inventor John Yianni, Hive was first published with wooden tiles and was available only in a few specialist games shops. The latest version is new this year and is much nicer to play with, not least because the creatures are now embossed and painted into the tiles, making them much clearer to see. Dedicated players already loved the wooden version, and you can find many of their very enthusiastic comments on the inventor's own website.
